While online gaming is definitely not a new pastime, it is definitely hitting new levels in terms of popularity and social acceptance. Ask anyone these days under 40 for the names of a couple games that can be played online, and they will very likely be able to give you at least one.

Real-Time Strategy

One type of online game which has reached every corner of the world and every generation is real-time strategy. These games are perfect for anyone looking for intense competition and plenty of depth. The main objective of games in this genre is to take control of resources and keep the ones you already have. When you are playing with hundreds of people, and they are all trying to do the same thing, the challenge of these games can reach extraordinary levels.

Online Casinos

Among the most popular of all are online casinos, where people from all over the world come together and enjoy an engaging casino experience. Everything from live table games to slot machines to classic casino game simulators run by random number generators can be found at these casinos making them even more fully featured than a lot of land-based casinos. These games offer every bit of the fun and excitement that their physical cousins bring to the table.

War Games

One of the most popular online game variants is the multiplayer war scenario. There are numerous titles which host hundreds of thousands of players each, and they each provide a different experience. These games are common; in fact, some of them have become household names. Games like CSGO, the Battlefield series and Call of Duty are at the top of list, generally speaking, but there are many, many others. The reason for the popularity of these games is that they provide bite-sized war experiences to players which can be highly competitive.

Whatever your preferred method of play may be, there are several options out there to keep you engaged for as long as you wish to immerse yourself. The best thing about it is that you don’t have to do it alone as there are millions of people online at any given time playing a wide variety of games.

2 Xbox games that also exist on PC

Xbox has produced some riveting games over the years, with some of the most successful being the Forza Motorsport and Halo series. The following are two games available on both the Xbox and PC platforms:

Minecraft

Minecraft is a popular video game that was originally created by Markus Persson, a Swedish programmer. It involves breaking and arranging bricks. It at first involved gamers building structures for protection against nocturnal creatures, but with time, the game evolved, and players started working together to build enormous, wonderful things. The building blocks are mainly textured cubes in a 3D generated environment. Activities in the game include gathering resources, exploration, combat and crafting. There are multiple gaming modes such as Survival, which requires the player to gather resources to develop the world around him and maintain his health. There is also Creative mode where there are unlimited building resources and the ability to fly. In Adventure mode, players make use of maps created by others. Minecraft’s first PC release was in 2009, with the full version being released towards the end of 2011. Moreover, the Xbox 360 and Live versions were released in May, 2012.

Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation is a first person horror genre game. It was based on Alien, a science fiction film by Ridley Scott. Its title refers to an extraterrestrial creature, which attacks and kills crew members of a cruise ship. That said, the game features one Alien from start to finish that cannot be killed, which leaves the players no choice but to use stealth tactics throughout the game in order to survive. Although there is a wide selection of weapons, they are only effective against humans and androids. Players also have the choice to finish the game by not killing humans with non-lethal weapons. One of the most amazing elements about the game is that the Alien artificial intelligence is not programmed to follow a definite path, but instead hunts the player through sound, sight and smell. Moreover, the complex sets of behaviours are set to unlock during encounters with players, thereby creating the illusion of the Alien learning from the encounters. The creature also has the ability to investigate disturbances. The PC and Xbox versions were released in October 2014.
